The Requirements

When Wrexham Council approached Trackyou with a query to provide a solution for their refuse collection trucks – we were happy to help them find an appropriate solution.

Wrexham Council were having problems with repeat visits to certain areas for refuse collections – only to find the bins were contaminated and could not be emptied anyway – a very expensive wasted journey for all concerned.

Wrexham then purchased a box to take data on board of which houses the bin lorry had visited with such problems – but could not transmit the data from the box.

The Solution

Trackyou collaborated with Wrexham to solve the problem. By interfacing with a Trackyou designed and manufactured externally mounted Data Collection Unit it was possible to then have a live updating feature showing exactly which properties had not had their bin collected due to 'contamination', such as 'bin not out, wrong bin, recycling box required' as examples.
How did it work?

All the refuse workers had to do was punch in the house name or number and the appropriate button that related to the reason code, i.e. F1 = bin not presented.

The data is sent immediately, including the full postal address in question (automatically calculated using GPS data).

This feature is already saving the Authority thousands of pounds by significantly reducing the man hours worked; reducing their fuel bills and wear and tear on vehicles.

It also assists them to meet with the environmental targets by reducing their CO2 emissions and their overall Carbon Footprint.

In addition, operators are able to respond immediate with clear information to be able to assist with enquiries from the general public asking why their bins have not been collected.

The authority is also able to review the data via Trackyou's reporting suite and look at global trends via the ground breaking Trackyou analytics console – an integral part of the Trackyou fleet management system and an industry innovation.

The Trackyou Vehicle Tracking Unit (VTU) complies with all EMC and EN directives (this is a pre-requisite for UK Dept of Transport type approval) and is certified and has Type approval for use in the UK by the Dept of Transport Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA)

The Outcome

Trackyou were recently commended for their ground breaking work with Wrexham Council by the Deputy First Minister of Wales who came to visit the company.

The technology that Trackyou provide is ground breaking and precisely the type of services that the public sector in Wales should be investing in.

The ability to be able to accurately monitor recycling and waste to such levels will dramatically improve the public sector's carbon footprint across Wales – but there are clear benefits to be seen across the whole of the UK and beyond.

Many local authorities across Wales are already seeing the benefit of using the Trackyou system and I'm sure that many more will be taking a great interest in how this technology can help Wales achieve its recycling and waste targets over years to come."
